Clayton Launches Home Previewer® Augmented Reality Mobile App

National homebuilder introduces new app with enhanced interactive functionality for homebuyers

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 10, 2017) — New home shoppers can now use augmented reality to visualize what their potential new home may look like on their land before they break ground thanks to the release of an innovative new app.  Clayton, a Berkshire Hathaway company and one of America’s largest homebuilders, announces the release of Home Previewer®, an iPhone® compatible app that allows shoppers to envision what a home may look like in 3D on their future home site.  The free app is available for download from the App Store®.

“We’re pleased to be one of the first builders to introduce augmented reality to the digital home buying journey,” said Kevin Clayton, CEO of Clayton Homes. “Our homes now offer custom designs, innovative features and energy efficient upgrades. We are committed to being a leader in innovation for the home building community and will continue to develop the kind of technology that will support our customers throughout the experience.”

The Home Previewer® app, created by Boulder, Colorado ad agency Made, lets users digitally anchor a home model from a list of model choices to the future home location using augmented reality to make it appear as if it is actually there. Once the virtual home is anchored, the user can walk up to and around the 3D rendered image to view it from different angles on its future site. Users also have the capability to take pictures of the house in its physical setting and share them with friends and family.

Clayton intends to introduce a wide variety of digital tools that will be released in the upcoming year.  These tools aim to aid customers as they visit local home centers and tour homes on location with their mobile devices on hand, while making the home shopping experience fun, personal and informative. Home Previewer™ is the first mobile app of its kind in the manufactured home building industry. This is Clayton’s second mobile app offered to date, following the 2015 release of MyMobi Home Finder®, an application that shows prospective homebuyers the location and pricing of homes for sale so they can select which homes they would like to visit in person.

“We believe everyone should be able to have a beautiful, affordable slice of the world to call their own,” said Clayton.  “We see interactive digital tools like this Home Previewer® app as one way to deliver on extraordinary experiences for our customers every day.  We want our homebuyers to feel confident about the smart choice they’re making.”

Thinking of Buying? Nine Things to Know First!

Considering buying a manufactured or mobile home? Before you take the plunge, there are a few things you should know and some research you should do. Here is a list of some important things to consider before you start to shop.

1. Know where you want to live.

Do you want to purchase a brand new home and have it moved to a site? Or are you looking to purchase a preowned home? There are a wide variety of options for manufactured home living. Some homes are on land you own, others are in communities where the land is leased and you pay a monthly fee. If you wish to own your own land, your first step is to check on your local area zoning laws – these vary by area. You will also need to look into water, electric, gas and sewer connections with local utility companies. If you move into a manufactured housing community, these will be taken care of for you. In addition, communities frequently offer many other amenities like pools, clubhouses and snow plowing, (Each community is different, so check with the managers to see the benefits of each one.

2. Plan ahead for how much home you’ll need.

Consider how many people will be living in the home, their ages, their requirements and how the rooms will be used. Do you have small children? Need a home office? Have a lot of overnight guests? Before you start home shopping, take some time to think about your current – and future needs. Manufactured homes come in a wide variety of designs. Square footage can be from 900 to 2,500 square feet – make sure you have the room you need.

Buying or Renting a Mobile Home? Here’s How to Contact the Sellers.

Here at MHVillage, we hear this a lot:

I found a home that I am interested in on MHVillage.com. How can I get more information about the home?

MHVillage.com does not own or directly sell the homes on our site. To get more information, you will want to contact the seller of the home directly. They have provided a phone number and/or an email option on their home listing page that you can use to reach out to them.

Looking to find a home to buy? Searching MHVillage is a great place to start. Each home on MHVillage has it’s listing page. This page has all the information provided by the seller – plus photos of the home. If you have questions, this is where you will want to look for contact information to connect with the seller.Home for Sale

There are two easy ways to contact a seller. Below you will find tips on how to find and use these features:

Email: Email Seller button

To the right of the photos of the home on the listing, you will see a button that has an envelope icon and says “Email Seller.” Click this and a box will pop up. You will then want to include your contact information and you can add a short note. Information provided here will be sent directly to the seller.

Have a list of questions handy, and don’t forget to include your contact information so the sellers can contact you back right away. Keep in mind that email responses can take a little longer, so if you see a home you want more information on right away – give them a call.

Phone: View Phone # button

To find the seller’s phone number, you will want to scroll down the page until you see a heading in red that reads “Contact Information.” Click on the button that says “View Phone #” to reveal the number. You can then contact the seller directly via phone to ask more questions.

Again, have your questions ready. What is important to you – do you need to know if the community allows pets? If it is an age qualified community? How about the school system? Be prepared when you make that call.

A few other options: If a seller has provided a link to their website there will be a button above the “View Phone #” button that is marked as “Seller Website.” This may also provide you with additional forms of contact.

Good luck and happy house hunting!

Manufactured Home Buyer’s Checklist

If you’re looking at buying a pre-owned mobile home, you’re aware of the many decisions you’ll need to make. There’s the basics like figuring out what home is the right size for you and your family, what’s the right location, and whether you want a “handyman special,” something that is “move-in ready,” or something in the middle.

On top of those considerations, there are unique mobile home details you may not be aware of. That’s why we’ve compiled this handy checklist of 10 essential, but little known, items you don’t want to miss before you buy.

Home Buyer’s Checklist

  1. Confirm Manufacturer, Model Name, and Date of Manufacture

It’s always a good idea to confirm the Manufacturer, Model Name, and Date of Manufacture before you purchase a home. Many banks and insurance companies require all of the purchase paperwork to match the exact state records concerning the home. You can typically verify this information by locating the manufacturer’s data plate; this sheet of paper is normally glued to the inside of a closet or cabinet door. Also be aware that the Year of Manufacture may differ from the Model Year of the home.

2. Verify Dimensions of Home

The size of the home should be verified with a tape measure, as many documents containing the dimensions of the home include roof overhangs and a 4′ trailer hitch. Your actual square footage may be smaller than anticipated if you go solely by the listing information.  Continue reading
